Dr. Samuel J. Stegman - Dermatologic Surgeon

In 1987 Dr. Stegman's hallmark work on sleep wrinkles proved that the muscular region of the face known as the "underlying superficial muscular aponeurotic system" (SMAS) was damaged by pillow contact. He found a correlation between the location of the underlying SMAS and sleep lines. This particular manifestation of aging disappears in the morning in teenagers but will persist longer and longer as we age. Many people in their forties and fifties maintain the sleep crease throughout the day. Dr Stegmans conclusion was attempting to change sleep pattern, i.e. sleeping on your back - but this is often more difficult than it sounds as we don't know how we move in our sleep As there is this correlation between the SMAS and sleep lines it makes sense to sleep on the softest, most purest pillows and pillowcases available and that is silk covered Silk floss filled pillows and silk charmeuse pillowcases.

Persistently pressing our faces into a pillow causes trauma to the skin. Over time, this trauma, aggravated by the friction of a cotton pillowcase, can create permanent creases as our collagen breaks down.

Environmental Protection

Silkworms are well-known for their hyper-sensitivity to chemical components. They cannot survive with even the tiniest amount of pesticide on their food - the mulberry leaves. Thus our silk is strictly chemical free from the raw material to the whole production. Since silk is a high molecular form of protein, it has a strong affinity for bio-organisms, and also has the unusual characteristic of preventing the growth of micro organisms and bacteria.

Sericin Research

Observing that the hands of workers who manually process silk are smooth despite long hours of exposure to water, the firm embarked on joint research with Hiroshima University and found sericin, another silk protein, to be responsible for the phenomenon.

A lot of doctors advise using Silk Pillowcases after cosmetic surgery -"I sleep on pillows covered in Silk Pillowcases" Dr Norman Markus
